Brightwood Community Center Sharing Space —

Food Pantry and Clothing Room Remain Open

Jean Ellis, Brightwood Community Center Board Member and volunteer, shared stories at our recent Brightwood Community Center Board meeting. “Yes, there is hunger.”

” I met Grandpa whose granddaughter comes to his home each day after school. He stops by Brightwood once a month to get food so that he can provide for her.  He picks up peanut butter, soup and cereal to provide an after school meal.”

” Coming by the Sharing Space food pantry at Brightwood allows one young man on chemo to keep his nutrition up by picking up healthy items to supplement his meals.”

“Two older ladies one with a cane and one with a walker said how grateful they were for the Brightwood Community Center food pantry because they could not get by the month without the service of the food pantry.”

A Time to Share set May 7, 6 p.m. at Brightwood Community Center

The Brightwood Community Center Board of Directors has been meeting following the resignation of the Executive Director. The Sharing Space is  open and has provided a great support to the community with recent days up to 22 persons (in one day) stopping by for needed food items. The after school program has been suspended until leadership is put into place. A search for an Executive Director and for a summer youth program director has begun.

The board knows that the center is needed in the community. How can Brightwood Community Center be a partner with the community? What do you see is the greatest need?

Parents, volunteers, community partners, donors, and other stakeholders are invited to a meeting May 7, 6 p.m. at Brightwood Community Center, 2410 N. Station Street.  There will be refreshments and a time for questions and answers. Please plan to join us. Please contact Georganna Irish (317-784-6974) or email her  to let her know you will be there.
