#WTLCIndyNews: “College Application Day” Today

pic-4-year-collegesHigh school students across Indiana are participating in “College Application Day” Tuesday.  This is an event designed to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students pursuing a college degree or other post-secondary credential.

Indiana’s Commissioner for Higher Education, Teresa Lubbers, said the day highlights to students the importance of taking that first step of applying to college–a necessary step because Lubbers suggested that the value of education beyond high school has never been greater.

Though today is the official day for the state, individual schools have flexibility on when to observe it. Schools can pick any day that their officials feel is the most appropriate for their schedules and designate it as “College Application Day.” The schools simply have to execute it with the primary purpose in mind of helping high school seniors navigate the complex college admissions process and ensure they apply to at least one post-secondary institution.
