Community News….Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative




Participating Cities:

Elkhart, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Bloomington, Hammond, Indianapolis, Jeffersonville, Kokomo, merrilville, Michicagn City, Richmond, South Bend, Terre Haute, New Albany

Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males and community partners will host the Statewide Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 9am – 3pm at locally owned Barbershops in 15 cities across the state. This initiative will offer FREE Screenings to attendees for both blood glucose and blood pressure.  General health literature and educational information on Prostate Cancer as well as a Community Resource Referral Booklet for follow-up treatments and check-ups will also be provided. 

In order for this event to be a success, the Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative is in need of Medical and Non-Medical volunteer’s. We are in need of volunteers to assist with providing the FREE Screenings at each Barbershop location.  CAN YOU HELP?

EVENT:          The “Indiana Black Barbershop Health Screening Initiative”

WHAT:            Medical Volunteers will provide Free Screenings for blood glucose and blood pressure

(Finger sticks & blood pressure)

                          Non-Medical Volunteers will assist with Registration Forms

WHEN:            Saturday, April 11, 2015

WHERE:         Locally Owned Barbershops – (listed below)

TIME:              9am –3pm             CHECK IN:      8:30am volunteers arrive at assigned barbershops for set-up.

Again, we thank you in advance for your assistance and look forward to working with you and the entire state of Indiana in making this Health Initiative a success.
