Things I’m Lovin Lately (Summer Turned Fall Edition)….

I never really take into account all the amazing aspects of summer… until it’s literally over. Summer is hands down the best time of the year. No stress, no tears over school, and absolutely no worries. And as the end of summer officially hit me harder than I even expected, I looked back on all of my amazing memories and everything that I am truly going to miss about summer. However it doesn’t have to unless I want it to it’s all in your head. As you all know I’m not big on Fall/Winter season I only enjoy it because it my kids & I birthdays. As I tend to get the blues, but as I get older I’m learning to embrace every season as it comes my way for new opportunites. So are a few “Things I’m Lovin”  In the Summer way into the Fall/Winter &  beyond no matter what season.

~ Embracing technology and learning how to weave it into my life in a positive way.

~  Making lists.

~  Bubble baths with salt and essential oils.
~ Spa days. Massages, steam rooms, saunas, facials, fluffy robes.

~ .Getting together with a big group of girlfriends and talking about life, rather than work.

~ Sitting down to a delicious looking dinner that I made myself.

~ Farmer’s Markets.
~ Fruit. Fruit salads, whole fruit and fruit smoothies. My fruit monster status.

Chocolate. Hot cocoa

~ Wearing my hair in a high bun all day. Aka, fuss free hair. Also: no makeup days.

~ The sound of crickets humming. The sight of fireflies. Warm summer nights and after dinner strolls.

~ Early morning breeze and summer sunrise

~ Skirts that twirl or flow, and shoes that sparkle.

~ Singing loudly in my car and thinking I sound amazing. example: Let it Go, Elsa has nothing on me.

So, there are my Things I’ve been loving lately for the last few months. I love doing these kinds of posts, so I’d love to know what you’ve been enjoying over the Summer too.

If you’re anything like us, you’re hitting the ground at breakneck speed in honor of the new year! Taylor, in particular, is wasting no time getting her ducks in a row in this first month of 2016, and below she’s sharing a few of the things that she can’t wait to grab up to celebrate her own new beginning.

  1. Le Creuset Signature Cast-Iron Dutch Oven with Gold Knob ($300): This white and gold Le Creuset dutch oven would look gorgeous on display in a kitchen!
  2. La Bohème Rose Gold White/Pink Watch ($99): I don’t need “Rose Quartz” to be one of Pantone’s colors of the year to influence me into buying any more pale pink pieces. I’m already full-blown obsessed! If you look back over my past edits, I am sure you will notice this trend. This watch has been on my wish list for quite some time now, and I think this month, it’s time to finally get it.
  3. Arteriors Home Jacoby 2-Light Antique Brass Floor Lamp ($960): I’ve been searching for a cool, glamorous floor lamp for my bedroom for more than a year, and I just came across this one—I’m in love!
  4. Recipes for a Beautiful Life: A Memoir in Storiesby Rebecca Barry ($17.08): I’m really into reading memoirs right now and I’ve heard that this one is lovely. I just picked it up and I can’t wait to dive into it.
  5. Catbird, Ghost Rose Candle ($38): I love this candle and its delightful floral scent. Plus, the cool, high-contrast jar design makes it an easy choice for styling vignettes throughout my house.
  6. J.Crew, Girls’ New Balance for Crewcuts 410 Sneakers in Metallic ($50): J.Crew’s Crewcuts and New Balance make the coolest shoes for girls, and I just had to get this pair for my daughter. I wish they came in my size!
  7. Pink Rainbow Mirror ($95): I love the fun and colorful work of Bride and Wolfe. This pink rainbow wall mirror would be so fun in a kids’ room, don’t you agree?

Work/ Life Balance:  A Mompreneurs Hustle

This 40+ single mom of 2 is a very busy lady, between my 9-5, Radio Personality, Entrepreneur and PR Girl about town…my life can be chaotic.

My alarm usually goes off at 5:30 am (sometimes I hit it 3 times before I actually get up). I try to start my day with Yoga (at home) I normally go to youtube..I don’t have a favorite one just yet. As with any single parent, my days are never the same, some days are more complex than others, but sometimes you have to define your own balance because of  it.

Being a single mom is NOT a setback we just have to “hustle,” “crush it,” “grind” harder. Being a single mom comes with a wealth of skills that do well in entrepreneurship like tactics: multitasking, creativity, managing and/or operating on a budget, and problem-solving to say the least.

You have to make family a part of your business… I’ve always considered my kids to be my board of directors, whether we’re moving or having them share a bedroom so we can open a store in our house. Make them a part of that journey. And that’s for any mom, not just single moms… Our kids are our reason to seek out a better life.”

Some days I stay up until 3 am working and then have to do a 7 a.m. child drop off at school. Be kind to yourself. Make time for you even if it’s just to breathe and smell the air. Kids are going to make messes, they are going to eat your reports and download viruses to your computer. Your best weapon is a sense of humor. Enjoy your single mom entrepreneur life (for the moment), wear the title proudly. We are basically super heroes.” I gave up on finding the perfect work-life balance, don’t get me wrong, I set short term goals, and long goals.  I make plans but they are tweeked so often they never stay the same…the only thing that’s definite is “CHANGE”.  So relax, have faith, and take it one day at a time.”

“Things I’m Lovin Lately” (September)

Hello Everyone,

I’m still currently in my zone from my 9-5, and as part of my position I am always out in the community doing what I do back. So even though summer isn’t technically over I thought I give some of my favorite in the sun products to keep your skin hydrated and looking healthy (even though there may be no shade to be found). I have sensitive, mature skin so it’s important to me to keep it clean and fresh looking with little to minimum makeup. So here are a few tips on shopping for products that fit your lifestyle needs like a pro.

3 Steps to Skincare Shopping Like a Pro

Virginia Lowman

Like most industries, beauty succumbs to the ebb and flow of what is trending. Makeup trends are determined by everything from Pantone’s color of the year to what is seen on the runways. As of late, skincare trends have been driven by popular Korean beauty methods like dry brushing and double cleansing, with a few choice ingredients taking center stage. With so many products to choose from and so many trends to keep up with, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. So, we’ve created a guide to shopping for skincare to help streamline your process and keep you in the know for your next beauty hunt.

Step 1: Ask The Necessary Questions

Skincare is not a one size fits all kind of deal. Before your hormones decided to wage war against you during those gruesome years called “adolescence,” your skin was more resilient and could withstand those basic all-purpose products. As you age, you inadvertenly develop a rapport with your skin, by testing products to determine which work best for you. Unknowingly, you base these products on a few factors: skin type, age, issues, lifestyle and geography. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before your next beauty haul:

What is my skin type?

This age old skincare question will always be relevant in determining the kind of products that will best suit your needs. Identifying whether you have normal/sensitive skin, oily/combination (oily and dry), dry or acne-prone skin is an essential step in understanding your skin and its’ needs. Knowing your skin type is the first step towards customizing your skincare and having the skin you want.

Does my skincare regimen compliment my age?

If you read the Your Skin after 30 story, then you know that your skincare regimen should evolve as you age. Because collagen and elastin break down over time, anti-aging products with retinol and gentle exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids become a necessity to increase cell turnover (a fancy term for generating new skin) and boosting collagen (the stuff that makes your skin firm and plump). It’s also important to change the way you care for your skin as you age. In addition to loosing elasticity and firmness, skin also becomes thinner and drier over time; thus, the harsh cleaning and treatment methods that you may have used at 16 no longer suit your skin.

What are the skin issues I need to address?

Do you have dry, flaking skin? Hyperpigmentation? T-zone too oily? Naming your issues can help to determine which products in your regimen may be irritating your skin and what you may need to incorporate to alleviate the issues.

How does my lifestyle affect my skin?

Are you a smoker or a regular social drinker? Do you exercise regularly? Regardless of the activity, your lifestyle takes a toll on your skin in different ways causing various concerns.

How does the climate where I live affect my skin?

Of course environmental factors such as UV rays take a toll on the skin, but beyond the daily use of SPF, you should consider the general climate of the area that you live in. For example, those who live in colder climates often have skin that is more fragile than most. Cold weather can slow circulation causing less oxygen to reach the cells leading to dry, flaking skin and in extreme cases, rosacea. Those who live in warmer climates may be more prone to suffering from acne, as heat and humidity increase oil production. In addition to formula, considering texture is also helpful in determining whether a product is suited for your skin type and environmental influences.

Step 2: Find Out When It Was Made

You know that random date stamp that can be found on most packaging? Turns out you can benefit from paying a little attention to it! If you’re going to invest in a face cream, it’s best to buy the freshest one available to you. Check the date stamp, and buy the cream with the most recent date to ensure that the active ingredients in the product are still effective. After all, what good is the cream if its’ ingredients are past their shelf life?

Step 3: Pick The Best Packaging

That bottle may be the perfect compliment to your gorgeous Fornasetti candle, but we aren’t talking about looks, here. Some of the best skincare products come in plain packaging. When selecting a product, specifically a cream, you want to focus on products housed in airless dispensers or laminated aluminum foil tubes (similar to your toothpaste). Your favorite cream may come in a tub, but from the moment you open the product and expose it to light and air, some of those active ingredients can become degraded and less effective. Additionally, using your fingers to apply the cream introduces germs to the product, turning your cream or balm into a petri dish.

How do you determine what products to buy when shopping for skincare? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

When Nourish Snacks first asked about sending me their pre-packaged snacks to try, I was apprehensive. Typically, I’m not keen on packaged snack foods as they are notorious for being full of unhealthy ingredients. But it’s not always easy to make time to stock the fridge with super healthy snack options and it can be a challenge to find ones to grab when you’re a hectic mom on the go. Nourish Snacks have been awesome for those moments. Plus, they are healthy and so yummy.

Created by NBC’s TODAY Show nutritionist Joy Bauer, Nourish Snacks can be found in select Starbucks locations or ordered online. They are made with wholesome ingredients and packed with protein, antioxidants and fiber. Plus, they are dairy-free and gluten-free—things that make moms happy for the times their little ones want to share their snacks (just make sure they are eating ones that aren’t potential choking hazards).

Dirty Candles in Fragrance,Home,Natural,Organic

I have a soft spot for scented candles. Burning scented candles leave a lovely ambiance in your home – it truly turns a house into a home, especially in winter. Since we don’t have winter in Malaysia, I like burning candles in the evenings or in an air-conditioned room. Somehow, the scent lingers better.

These days, I’ve been relaxing with Dirt Candles’ Take it Easy – a lovely blend of lavender and vanilla scents.

Dirt Candles are natural soy candles infused with blends of essential oils to create the mood you want. Unlike other scented candles I own, I find the scents in Dirt Candles longer lasting yet mild. Just sniffing the new candle relaxes me right away and leaving the candle in a room without burning is good enough! The smell is sharp but not chemical and the scent fills the room beautifully without being overpowering. It comes with a cover so you can cover it up when its not being burnt which also stoppers up the scent. One thing I noticed was that when I blew out the candle after a while, there was no sharp acrid smell I usually get when a candle goes out – the smell remained pleasant and it lasts a long while.

Lately, to unwind, I’ve been combining Dirt Candles with The Best of Olivia CD – Olivia Ong is a Singaporean singer with a lovely crystal clear voice that sends shivers down my spine. She sings in English and Japanese and I discovered her CD during a dinner at a Japanese restaurant where her songs were playing!

Olivia and Dirt Candles are the best way to unwind and relax your mind after a long day – I turn down the lights, pop in The Best of Olivia and luxuriate in the calm cocoon of relaxation to recharge myself for the next day ahead. Ahh…

pic 3

Dirt Candles are 10oz and retail for RM100 at Tiny Tapir. Don’t worry about receiving them by post – I did and the glass container came safely. They have a burn time of approximately 60 hours and come in 25 scents. Apparently, once you are done burning them, you can use the glass for drinking – how about that?!

Oh and one more thing, because its 100 organic soy, you can dip your finger in some of the melted wax and apply to your skin as a scented body cream. I tried it and to my surprise it works and I did not burn my finger. There is no waxy feel and it feels nice and light on the skin plus the scent is lovely and warm.

I’m already planning to get another – now should I get A Fresh Start or After Hours? Though personally, the blend in Wedded Bliss sounds right up my alley, I wish the name wasn’t as damning for us single ladies
