Stress: Self-Help Tips
Being able to manage stress is important to living a healthy, happy and productive life.

Here are some techniques and strategies to help you deal with stress.

Maintain a regular program of healthy eating, good health habits and adequate sleep.

Exercise regularly — This promotes physical fitness as well as emotional well-being.
Balance work and play — All work and no play can make you feel stressed.
Help others — We concentrate on ourselves when we’re distressed. Sometimes helping others is the perfect remedy for what’s troubling us.
Take a shower or bath with warm water — This will soothe and calm your nerves and relax your muscles.
Have a good cry — Tears of sadness, joy or grief can help cleanse the body of substances that accumulate under stress and also release a natural pain-relieving substance from the brain.
Laugh a lot — When events seem too overwhelming, keep a sense of humor. Laughter makes our muscles go limp and releases tension.
Find ways to learn acceptance — Sometimes a difficult problem is out of control. When this happens, accept it until changes can be made… This is better than worrying and getting nowhere.
Talk out troubles — It sometimes helps to talk with a friend, relative or member of the clergy. Another person can help you see a problem from a different point of view.
Escape for a little while — Temporarily leaving a difficult situation can help you develop new attitudes. When you feel you are getting nowhere with a problem, a temporary diversion can help. Going to a movie, reading a book, visiting a museum or taking a drive can help you get out of a rut.
Reward yourself — Starting today, reward yourself with little things that make you feel good.
Do relaxation exercises daily — Good ones include visualization (imagining a soothing, restful scene), deep muscle relaxation (tensing and relaxing muscle fibers), meditation and deep-breathing.
Budget your time — Make a ‘to-do’ list. Rank — in priority — your daily tasks. Avoid committing yourself to doing too much.
View changes as positive challenges, opportunities or blessings.
Rehearse for stressful events — Imagine yourself feeling calm and confident in an anticipated stressful situation. You will be able to relax more easily when the situation arises.
Modify your environment to get rid of or manage your exposure to things that cause stress.

It’s All In Your Mind….

Houdini was the greatest magician during his time. He was also a fantastic locksmith, and boasted that he could escape from any jail cell in the world in less than one hour. A small town in the British Isles built a new jail and issued Houdini the challenge.

Houdini loved challenges and there was prize money offered, so he accepted the challenge. When the big day arrived, there was a large crowd present and the media was also there to cover the special event. Houdini confidently walked into the cell, and the door was closed. He immediately took off his coat and went to work.

Hidden in his belt was a flexible, yet tough and durable ten-inch piece of steel, which he used to work on the lock. At the end of 30 minutes, his confidence disappeared. At the end of an hour, he was soaked in perspiration. After two hours, Houdini literally collapsed against the door – which opened! The door had never been locked, except in Houdini’s own mind, which meant that the door was as firmly locked as if a thousand locksmiths had put their best locks on it. Houdini could have unlocked any physical locks, but not the lock that was in his own mind.

Just like Houdini, our locks are in our own mind and prevent us from getting out of our “jail”. Most of us are in a “mental prison” and in order to break out, we need to realize and admit it, and just give it a little push!

5 Measures to Keep Yourself Healthy!!!

5 Measures to Keep Yourself Healthy!!!
This regime has safeguarded me against illness for ALMOST AN ENTIRE YEAR…. and if you know anything about my history THAT’S AMAZING (even despite my mom, brother, and girlfriend getting sick multiple times!). I used to be sick a few times A MONTH. Can you say: MIRACLE?
If you’re already sick — or feel like you’re getting sick, go straight to here: http://benrolnik.wordpress.com/2012/10/15/ick-sickness/5 Prophylactic Measures You Can Implement IMMEDIATELY!
view with photos/video @ http://benrolnik.wordpress.com/2012/12/01/do-this-or-risk-getting-the-flu-this-season/

Here are some prophylactic measure you can take to KEEP YOURSELF HEALTHY this flu season! Some may sound trite… but they’re ALL important. Remember, these measures are PROPHYLACTIC because they’re supposed to PREVENT you from getting sick in the first place. It’s A LOT EASIER to just NOT GET SICK than it is to CURE an illness… An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure — remember this!

1: REMOVE THE RISK! The first step is, of course, don’t expose yourself to germs! More often than not — it is IMPOSSIBLE… so we needn’t dwell on it. However, there are precautions to LIMITING the risk — like for example wearing a surgical mask if you’re going into a place with many ill people, wearing gloves, or not kissing, sharing drinks, or even air-space with someone sniffling. If you really want to go all out — buy a bubble like bubble boy’s… if there is no threat, there is no risk — but what who doesn’t like to live at least A LITTLE dangerously?

2: CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS. I cannot stress the importance of this: wash your hands! Anything we touch can be infected with germs. All it takes is for us to bring these germs to our sensitive regions in order to get sick. Here’s how it happens: Some one sneezes into their hand. Wipes it off (barely). Touches the knob on a door (or shakes your hand). You touch the door handle (or shake their hand). You scratch your head, rub your eyes, pick your nose, hold too high on the straw, eat a sandwich… and VOILA! Purell is an excellent product to have around during this time (get a pocket version from a gas station next time you stop and use the infected pump handle)… I’m not exactly sure how effective it is (99.9% of the irrelevant germs makes it 100% useless), however, for at least the placebo effect its worth it until you can wash up.

3: LOVE AND LAUGH! Before he died, Ed McMahon said to me: “without laughter, what’s the point?” For some reason I don’t think he understood — I kept repeating it and he kept correcting me. I’m not even sure if that’s the right quote. But who the hell cares? — I can just imagine my serious, enquiring face twisting: BUT ED, I THOUGHT YOU JUST SAID…. and I HAD missed the point! You see, the greatest mistake most people make when they’re sad is not smile. It’s counter-intuitive: but that’s the point. Stretching means: if you CAN’T, you MUST. If you can’t smile… then smiling is the most important thing for you right now. It’s hard to feel good when we’re sick — but, then again, happy people don’t get sick (just google search it if you don’t believe me!). Feel better FASTER — or buttress your immune system — by smiling, speaking to people who make you feel loved, watching funny movies, meditate, breathe — do anything you can to eliminate stress and dissolve tension, accessing your inner state of peace and positivity.

4: DO NOT PASS GO. DO NOT COLLECT $200. JUST SLEEP. The WORST mistake people make in these situations is NOT SLEEPING. The moment you feel like you’ve been “exposed” — or you’re vulnerable — is the moment you need to start sleeping AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Think about it like this: if your cell-phone battery is fully charged, then you can take calls all day and respond to emergencies. But, say, your cell-phone battery is only half charged or not charged at all… then if our phone dies during the day and there’s an emergency: guess what? We’re SOL. Sleeping is the same as recharging our battery. It’s not just important… it’s NECESSARY! Also — for times like this, OVERCHARGED is CERTAINLY more ideal than an UNDERCHARGED.

5: CALL IN THE REINFORCEMENTS! There are a few heavy-hitters that I turn to when I’m in need of extra defense. The first is Vitamin C — I use a top quality, organic, natural source product… and I take A LOT of it. I once asked Gabriel Cousens when I should start worrying about taking too much vitamin C (when I’m sick) — Are you taking 100,000 mg? he asked. Enough said. The next is Zinc. After that Silver. There are more ideas for this on the other post… you don’t need to go OVERBOARD — but imagine there’s a war going on in your system. The more guys you have on your team to outnumber theirs, the quicker your going to win the battle… A big army can crush the tiny fledglings of an uncoordinated insurgency – but the longer things are allowed to develop, the harder they get to stop: as Lao Tzu says, “no country has ever benefited from a protracted war.” Take this to heart and end it quickly. Imagine pro-actively dealing with illness like you deal with a stain: the quicker you catch it the easier the clean-up… grab that champagne flute while it’s still falling!

FINALLY: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO STAY HEALTHY?!
–THIS IS STRICTLY MY OPINION, MEANT FOR ENTERTAINMENT. IT IS NOT MEANT TO SERVE AS MEDICAL ADVICE. I AM NOT A DOCTOR. IF YOU WANT MEDICAL ADVICE, SEE YOUR LOCAL HEALTH-CARE PROVIDER.

Happy Martin Luther King Day!!!!

Martin 2Martin

Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement.[1] He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience.[2] King has become a national icon in the history of American progressivism.[3]

A Baptist minister, King became a civil rights activist early in his career.[4] He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in 1957, serving as its first president. King’s efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. There, he established his reputation as one of the greatest orators in American history. He also established his reputation as a radical, and became an object of the FBI’s COINTELPRO for the rest of his life.

On October 14 1964, King received the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolence. In the next few years leading up to his death, he expanded his focus to include poverty and the Vietnam War—alienating many of his liberal allies with a 1967 speech titled “Beyond Vietnam”. King was planning a national occupation of Washington, D.C., called the Poor People’s Campaign.

King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and Congressional Gold Medal in 2004; Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was established as a U.S. federal holiday in 1986. Hundreds of streets in the U.S. and beyond have been renamed in his honor.

Hardest Working Man In The “Movie” Industry

denzel-washington
Denzel Washington Voted Top Money-Making Star of 2012

Denzel Washington has been voted the Top Money-Making Star of 2012 in Quigley Publishing Company’s 81st Annual Poll of Motion Picture Exhibitors. This is Washington’s eighth appearance in the Quigley Poll, and his first win. Exhibitors felt Washington was responsible for more traffic to movie theatres than any other Hollywood star this year based on his performances in “Flight” and “Safe House.” Washington is the fourth black American to win the Poll, joining Will Smith (2005), Eddie Murphy (1987) and Sidney Poitier . (1968) In 81 years, eight women have been voted first in the Top Ten a total of sixteen times, with Julie Andrews , Doris Day , Shirley Temple and Marie Dressler winning multiple times.

The Quigley Poll, conducted each year since 1932, is an annual survey of motion picture theatre owners and film buyers, which asks them to vote for the ten stars that they believe generated the most box-office revenue for their theatres during the year. It has been long regarded as one of the most reliable indicators of a Star’s real box-office draw because the selections are made by professionals whose livelihood depends on choosing the films and actors that will bring audiences to their theatres. It draws a distinction among stars that happen to appear in hit films and those stars that Exhibitors and film buyers believe actually cause an audience to come to their theatres. The Quigley Poll appears annually in Quigley Publishing Company’s International Motion Picture Almanac and on our web site: http://www.quigleypublishing.com. Both list the results of all the Polls since 1932.

The only woman in the Top Ten this year, Anne Hathaway , placed second with her roles in “Les Miserables” and as Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises.” Hugh Jackman and Mark Wahlberg , both with their initial Poll appearance, were third and fourth respectively. Jackman was in “Les Miserables” and a voice talent in “Rise of the Guardians” and Wahlberg scored with “Contraband” and in the sleeper hit of the year, “Ted.” Johnny Depp was in “Dark Shadows” and had an uncredited role in “21 Jump Street,” but still managed a fifth this year. He has been in the Top Ten eight times, with wins in 2010, 2007 and 2006.

Daniel Craig made his second showing in the Top Ten in sixth place with “Skyfall” and Daniel Day-Lewis , playing “Lincoln,” had his debut in seventh place. Last year’s winner, Brad Pitt , made it seven years in the Poll and was voted into the eighth spot. Leonardo DiCaprio was ninth with a performance in “Django Unchained” and has been in the Quigley Poll eight times. Robert Downey, Jr. came in tenth with his performance in “The Avengers.”
Tom Cruise has not placed in the Poll since 2007, but has been in the Top Ten 20 times since 1983, and been voted number one – the most of any actor – seven times. Tom Hanks , Clint Eastwood , Burt Reynolds and Bing Crosby have all won five times. Clint Eastwood has been in the poll 21 times starting in 1968. Currently, Exhibitors appreciate him more as a Director that brings audiences to their theatres. John Wayne , Doris Day and Shirley Temple each finished first four times, but John Wayne was voted one of the Top Ten Money-Making Stars an astounding 25 times from 1949 to 1974.

Exhibitors were also asked to name the Stars of Tomorrow for 2012: one male and one female who they feel will be Top Money-Makers in the years to come. The 2012 winners are Joseph Gordon-Levitt who was in “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Looper,” “Lincoln” and “Premium Rush” and Jennifer Lawrence who had breakthrough performances in “The Hunger Games” and “Silver Linings Playbook” and starred in “House at the End of the Street.”
Quigley Publishing Company was founded in 1915 and has published the International Motion Picture Almanac annually since 1930 and the International Television & Video Almanac since 1955. Historical data, analysis and all of the Top Ten Money-Making Star Polls dating back to 1932 are available in the 2013 edition of the International Motion Picture Almanac and on our web site: http://www.quigleypublishing.com

The Obama Family On Inauguration Day!!!

President ObamaObama WalkObama FamilyObamaMichelle

It’s a happy day in Washington D.C., but the Obamas are seemingly feeling a bit blue. After donning a blue Reed Krakoff suit for President Obama’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, Michelle Obama arrived at Monday’s big Inauguration Day ceremonies wearing a blue checked coat by Thom Browne.

This is the second notable occasion in which FLOTUS has worn Thom Browne, having picked a gray Thom Browne dress for the third presidential debate in 2012. As Robin Givhan commented on NBC on Monday, “This is not a designer you wander into a mall and find.”
On Monday, the first lady paired her collarless fit-and-flare coat with J. Crew shoes, just like in 2009. Unlike 2009, FLOTUS now has a bangin’ set of blunt bangs, first debuted last Thursday in an online video posted by the White House. The new hairstyle, Michelle’s most drastic beauty change in the past four years, has been all the talk of the fashion (and non-fashion) world.

While Mrs. O chose Thom Browne, Malia sported a pink J. Crew coat with contrasting violet tights and Sasha wore a periwinkle Kate Spade coat also with coordinating colored tights (and a statement necklace — Sasha loves her accessories…). Each First Daughter also donned colorful flats.

More photos and footage will be rolling in throughout the day, but what are your first impressions on the Obamas’ inauguration day looks? Tell us in the comments!
